What is Quittin’ Time?

Quittin' Time is a comprehensive smoking cessation program available to employees of the BC public service or other organization with coverage under the BC public service benefit plan. Spouses or dependants that are listed as dependants under the BC public service employee’s benefit plan are also eligible to participate in the program.

Components of the Quittin’ Time program include:

  • Telephone counselling by experienced professional counsellors trained in cessation support and in providing personalized quit plans. This support includes:
    • An initial intake call with a Quit Line representative,
    • Up to 7 calls of counselling support initiated by a counsellor, and
    • 24/7 access to immediate support is needed at any time during the quit process.
  • Extended health plan reimbursement for eligible smoking cessation products. Please note: to be eligible for smoking cessation product reimbursement, you must register for the telephone counselling program with a counsellor.
  • Quittin’ Time by TXT services, a 14-week mobile texting service, to provide motivation and tips to keep you on quit course. This service can be used by itself or in conjunction with the telephone counselling services.
  • Employer and management support including a website with tips and important information for those preparing to quit.

If you're ready to quit, we can help

Finding the motivation to quit smoking and to stay quit can come from the most unexpected sources: a loved one, a new pet, a co-worker or a close group of longstanding friends. For some, it’s all about the health benefits. For others, it’s about saving money. Everyone has a different story.

Here’s what we do know: our Quittin’ Time program works well for the majority of registrants.

More than 2,000 employees and their family members have registered in our program to date. If this is your time to quit, we have one of the best programs available. Here are our best suggestions to help you become a successful quitter:

  1. Plan your quit strategy
Success is higher when your quitting strategy is established before you reach your quit date. Our counsellors and website supports can help you develop a plan that suits your lifestyle and work world.
  2. Partner with someone who shares your goals
A number of our participants succeeded with either support or a challenge from a person close to them.
  3. Learn about what works for others
We recommend you read the success stories of those people who have made the commitment to quit and who have stayed quit.
  4. Use supports to help you stay on track
Sign up for Quittin’ Time by TXT services which will send you text messages to encourage you to reach your goal.
