Quittin’ Time by TXT is a 14 week mobile
texting service designed to provide smokers who plan
to quit within the next 30 days, and those who have
just recently quit, with helpful tips and
motivational support. The text service is the newest
component of the Quittin’ Time smoking cessation
program. We recommend you use Quittin’ Time by TXT
in combination with Quittin’ Time’s
telephone
counselling services and extended health benefit
coverage for
smoking cessation products.
Note: The service is available at no cost to you
but standard message/data rates may apply, including
global roaming charges if you travel outside the
country. Check with your wireless carrier.
This service is available to employees of the BC
public service or other organizations with coverage
under the BC public service benefit plan. Spouses or
dependants that are listed as dependants under the
BC public service employee’s benefit plan are also
eligible to participate.
How do I get started?
Register for Quittin’ Time by TXT and we'll
send you daily text messages to help motivate
and support you in your quit. The program
requires you to set a Quit Date, following which
you will receive a series of messages. Messages
are tailored to help you prepare, cope with
cravings, and stay quit.
Register Online:
Complete the short registration form and two things
will happen:
- We will send you an email and
text message to confirm your
registration.
- You will be asked to text back
‘ACCEPT’ to 654321 for your text
messages to start.
How many messages will I receive?
This depends on your Quit Date. If your Quit Date
is in the future, you will receive messages to help
you prepare and to help you through your active
quitting phase. If you have just recently quit, your
Quit Date will trigger messages tailored to
maintaining your quit and keeping you on track.
- Before your Quit Date:
you will receive 1 to 2 messages per
day for up to two weeks prior to
your Quit Date to help you prepare.
- After your Quit Date:
you will receive up to 3 messages
per day for the first month and two
messages per week for the next two
months.
What if I need extra support?
Text to 654321 the following keywords day or
night to receive extra supportive messages: CRAVE,
HUNGER, ALCOHOL, STRESS, SLIP, BACK SMOKING, HELP or
INFO.
Call Quittin’ Time at 1-877-455-2233 anytime,
24/7 to get immediate support.
How do I stop the service?
You can STOP or SUSPEND this TXT service anytime
as follows:
- Text ' STOP' to 654321; OR
- Enter 'STOP the TXT messaging
service' on your
online account
